CHYPRE: | This family takes its name from the first ‘CHYPRE’, launched by François Coty in 1917. A generic name for a family of fragrances with a mossy, woody base, chypre was originally inspired by the smells of the island of Cyprus, starring sharp patchouli and oak-moss base notes intertwined with citrus. The chypres are strong, easily recognisable fragrances that can be softened by mixing them with other accords. |

FOUGÈRE: | Fougère Royale was created in 1882 for Houbigant by the Perfumer Paul Parquet. FOUGÈRE means fern in French and is aromatic with a smell of lavender and other herbs married together with tonka bean (coumarin). Hugely popular in men’s fragrances particularly during the 1950s when it was considered ‘the classic barbershop smell’. We’re now seeing a new found love for this classic aroma by every gender which is great, especially as the first Fougère Royale in 1882 was designed for women. |
